Turkish Airlines (THY), the airline that flies to the most countries in the world, has launched its first flight from Istanbul Airport to Melbourne, Australia, with a stopover in Singapore.

Upon boarding the THY TK 168 flight, which carried 349 passengers on a Boeing 777 aircraft, passengers were offered Turkish delight.

Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of THY, expressed his pleasure at initiating the airline’s first flight to the sixth continent. Bolat stated that Australia has a population of 26 million and an annual per capita income of $70,000.

Bolat noted that Australians have visited Turkey before, mainly to Gallipoli due to the ANZACs, traveling long distances with partner airlines. He highlighted that now, a passenger boarding from Melbourne can reach Turkey with a 19-hour flight. Bolat also mentioned bringing journalists from Australia and hosting bloggers and YouTubers last week to explore Turkey’s attractions, believing that mutual tourism will thrive.

Bolat emphasized the significance of this flight and hinted at the possibility of opening flights to Sydney soon, with ongoing discussions and plans to visit the city during this trip, suggesting that they might start flying to Sydney before the end of the year.
