Turkish Energy Minister: Natural Gas Contract with Russia Terminated

Turkish Energy & Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz has said that the Western Line contract with Russia was terminated.

Yildiz told reporters, “the Western Line contract with Russia was terminated since Russia turned down Turkey’s demand for a reduction in the price of natural gas.”

“Termination of the contract does not affect our relations with Russia since we have sound relations and strategic cooperation ties with Russia. Also, termination of such a contract does not mean end of inflow of natural gas,” he said.

The contract between Turkey and Russia on natural gas transfer via Western Line would expire in the end of 2011.
