davutogluTurkey’s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said signing a nuclear cooperation agreement with Japan was possible, the Japanese economic newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported.

Davutoğlu allegedly said Turkey trusted Japan’s technology and safety in the field of nuclear power plants.

The report cited the minister as saying it was possible for Turkey to sign an agreement with Japan in spring regarding the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Davutoğlu reportedly said he wished to visit Japan in order to improve diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Discussions around the construction of a Japanese nuclear power plant in Turkey had halted due to nuclear energy concerns which surfaced following the earthquake and powerful tsunami that struck Japan March 2011.
