Turkish Grand National Assembly opens

After a long vacation during which the country has gone through multiple major undesired events, deputies were back at the Turkish Grand National Assembly yesterdey to start with their work for the new term.

Mr. Cemil Çiçek, the speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly condemned terrorism and delivered some important messages.

Çiçek said that fighting terrorism was a non-partisan issue and it was a problem everybody should contribute to solve and all should openly make clear where they stood.

The spokesman also referred to the drafting of the Constitution and said a new constitution was a social demand and thus a must for Turkey.

The most important part of the session was when  President Abdullah gül sarted to deliver the opening speech of parliament.

The President delievered some truly important messages in his speech.

He said “The unity of everyone in the country is of vital importance in the fight against terrorism”. He went on to say “terrorism has committed a historic mistake by seizing upon the developments in Syria.”

The President also referred to the formation of new constitution to come and said  “A constitution to widen fundemantal rights and freedoms and institutionalize our democracy should be prepared in the shortest time possible. A  new citizenship contract needs to be materialized to make sure noone should feel themselves excluded.”

Gül also mentioned that Turkey should refrain from excessive self-confidence and complacency in economy.

To be most important, Gül went on to say “Elected deputies who have been kept in prioson without being sentenced for a long while should take their places in the parliament, unless they are convicted”.

As to the accreditation issue in the ruling Ak Parti congress, he said it was essential that all journalists would be able to do their work without any restrictions.
