Passenger numbers at Istanbul airports increases by 13 percent
In the first quarter of the year, covering January-March, 27,104,054 passengers traveled through Istanbul’s airports. The number of passengers increased by 13% compared to the same period last year.
The rise in air traffic and passenger density seen in 2023 continued in the first quarter of this year, despite the significant decrease in air traffic and passenger density worldwide and in Turkey during the COVID-19 pandemic.
NUMBER OF PASSENGERS AT ISTANBUL AND SABIHA GOKCEN AIRPORTS INCREASE
It was determined that the number of passengers handled at Istanbul and Sabiha Gökçen airports had increased compared to the same period in 2023.
The increase in passenger numbers also had a positive impact on the balance sheets of airlines. With the arrival of the tourism season, an increase is expected to continue in the coming months.
During the first 3 months of this year, Istanbul Airport hosted a total of 17,671,971 passengers. In this airport, 3,558,813 passengers traveled on domestic flights and 14,113,158 passengers traveled on international flights during the January-March period.
ISTANBUL AIRPORT INCREASES NUMBER OF PASSENGERS BY 9 % COMPARED TO LAST YEAR
In the same period last year, 16,237,909 people traveled through Istanbul Airport. It was calculated that Istanbul Airport increased its number of passengers by 1,434,062 and 9% compared to last year.
The increase at Sabiha Gökçen was 22%
At Sabiha Gökçen Airport, a total of 9,432,083 passengers flew in the domestic and international sectors, with 4,294,968 on domestic flights and 5,137,115 on international flights during the January-March period.
In the first quarter of last year, a total of 7,728,044 passengers arrived and departed from the airport, with the number of passengers increasing by 1,704,039 (22%) in this period.
A total of 27,104,054 passengers were hosted at Istanbul’s two airports in the first quarter of this year. In the same period last year, the total number of passengers was calculated as 23,965,953. The airports in Istanbul increased their number of passengers by 3,138,101 and 13% compared to last year.
