Retail Turnover Index in Shopping Malls increases in February

The Retail Turnover Index in Shopping Malls increased by 114.6% in February compared to the same period last year, reaching 2,553 points. The results for February of the Shopping Malls Retail Turnover Index, jointly created by the Shopping Malls and Investors Association and Akademetre Research, have been announced.

According to the data published regularly every month, the turnover index increased by 114.6% in February compared to the same period last year when not adjusted for inflation, reaching 2,553 points. When considering the annual inflation rate announced as 67.07% for February 2024, it was observed that the increase in the square meter efficiency index exceeded the inflation rate.

The square meter efficiency index increased by 2% when compared to January 2024 and not adjusted for inflation. The turnovers per leasable area (square meter) in shopping malls were 9,735 Turkish Lira nationwide, 11,704 Turkish Lira in Istanbul, and 8,421 Turkish Lira in Anatolia in February.

Turnover index by category

When examined by categories during this period, the index showed the highest annual increase in the technology category with 139.2%. Other categories saw increases of 118.7% in general, 109.5% in clothing, 99.9% in food and beverages, 96.5% in shoes, and 71.9% in hypermarkets.

When comparing the turnover index by category with the previous month of January, there was an increase of 20.2% in the technology category, 2.9% in shoes, 2.1% in other categories, and 0.7% in hypermarkets, while there was a decrease of 3.4% in clothing and 3.9% in food and beverages.

In February, the visit index increased by 11.39% compared to the same period last year, reaching 88 points. The visit index decreased by 9.2% compared to January.
