turkish_wines_fairTurkish wine producers are promoting their products at the ProWein International Wines and Spirits Trade Fair in Düsseldorf, Germany under the “Wines of Turkey” umbrella. This year, 3,600 exhibitors from 50 countries have joined the ProWein fair in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Seven Turkish companies will work to put local wines on the global radar at the event, which continues until Tuesday.

In a written statement on Sunday, Taner Öğütoğlu, the director of Wines of Turkey, said their efforts have yielded great results since the beginning of the fair.

“With many awards received last year, Turkish wines are also raising their voice [in the global marketplace],” Öğütoğlu said. “The international promotion of our wines has been neglected for many years. But now, under a single umbrella, we are taking historic steps.”

Wines of Turkey recently organized a conference in the U.K. on the history of wine, which originated in Anatolia. “Currently, Turkish wines do not have a good international standing, but we are taking steps toward this aim,” Öğütoğlu said. “Some of our projects are supported by the Culture and Tourism Ministry.”

The umbrella organization will soon start working on a comprehensive support program with the Foreign Trade Undersecretariat, the director said, adding that wine and gastronomy tourism is a promising area for Turkey.

The ProWein event this year expects around 36,000 trade visitors from all over the world. This year, 3,600 exhibitors from 50 countries joined the global event.
