TURKSTAT (Turkish Statistical Institute): Turkish Women earn less than men do
According to the 2022 data from TURKSTAT, among 100 wage earners in Turkey, 67 are male and 33 are female. This means that one out of every three wage earners is a woman.
As reported by Euronews Türkçe, among 1,000 wage earners in Turkey, 66 have completed primary school or below, 229 have completed primary and secondary school, 330 have completed high school, and 375 have completed higher education.
Out of 1,000 female wage earners, 523 are college graduates, while out of 1,000 male wage earners, 302 are college graduates. This implies that one in every two female wage earners is a university graduate.
Looking at the average gross monthly income in 2022, men’s salaries are higher than women’s across all education levels. The overall gross monthly salary for men is 11,233 Turkish liras, while for women, it is 10,961 Turkish liras. The monthly gross salary for a male university graduate is 18,525 Turkish liras, compared to 15,951 Turkish liras for women.
When calculated based on annual gross salary, the gender pay gap is in favor of men across all education levels. As the level of education increases, the gender pay gap also widens. The highest gap is 17.1%, observed among university graduates.
