Ukrain Conflict: Zelensky Backpedals, Praises Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, after a recent dispute with U.S. President Donald Trump, stepped back and praised Trump, expressing readiness to work together for peace. In a statement on social media, Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to peace and expressed their willingness to enter negotiations for a lasting peace. He stated that they are ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to end the war.
Zelensky emphasized that the first steps toward peace should involve the release of prisoners of war, cessation of airstrikes, and an end to attacks on energy and other civilian infrastructure. He also mentioned that if Russia complies with these conditions, a ceasefire could be declared at sea. Additionally, Zelensky expressed a desire to cooperate with the U.S. to move quickly through all phases and reach a strong final agreement. He also conveyed gratitude for the U.S.’s efforts to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence, recalling the pivotal moment when Trump provided Ukraine with Javelin anti-tank missiles.
Zelensky added that he hopes for constructive cooperation and communication with the U.S. in the future. He noted that his meeting with Trump on February 28 did not go as expected, stating, “It’s unfortunate that it happened this way, but now is the time to put things right.” Zelensky also said that Ukraine is always ready to sign a mineral and security agreement, viewing it as a step toward stronger security guarantees and hoping it will be effective.
U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to give his first Congress address since being re-elected on March 5 at 9:00 PM local time (05:00 AM Turkey Time). In a post yesterday, Trump stated, “Tomorrow night will be big. I’ll say it like it is!” According to reports, the U.S. plans to sign a mining agreement with Ukraine, and Trump’s advisers have indicated that he intends to announce this deal during his Congress speech.
