UN’s dire warning: 1 million people in Gaza face death by July
The United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization announced that more than 1 million people in Gaza are expected to face famine and death by mid-July. Hamas armed wing Izzeddin al-Qassam Brigades carried out a comprehensive attack on Israel on October 7, on the grounds of “responding to the continuous violations against the Palestinians and the sacred values, especially the al-Aqsa Mosque”.
Israel announced that 1,200 Israelis had been killed and 5,132 people injured in the attacks on October 7.
Since October 7, 36,550 Palestinians (at least 15,328 of them children, 10,171 of them women) have been killed and 82,959 people have been injured in Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.
While thousands of dead are still reported under the rubble, civilian infrastructure is also being destroyed by targeting hospitals and educational institutions where people are taking shelter. The Israeli army announced that 644 soldiers had been killed since October 7, when its attacks on the Gaza Strip began, 293 of them during the land invasion process.
During the “humanitarian break” given to the conflicts for 4 days on November 24, 2023, and later extended for another 3 days, 81 Israeli and 240 Palestinian prisoners were mutually released. On the other hand, Israel has continued to detain and imprison thousands of Palestinians.
Since October 7, 2023, 525 Palestinians have also been killed in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem in attacks by Israeli soldiers and Israelis who have usurped Palestinian territories.
