URLA, a prominent holiday resort in the Aegean and the ARTICHOKE FESTIVAL

URLA is famous for its “gum Artichoke” and the “URLA Artichoke Festival” is held every year with various events. During the festival the Main Square and streets of Urla host kitchen workshops, food tastings, art workshops, talks and music performances for 3 days as part of the event and everything about artichoke is covered.

Individual “Entrepreneurs” 🙂 who prepare for the festival for months also present artichoke jam, artichoke dishes, artichoke-themed souvenirs and textile products to the guests who visit the place.

The “Urla gum Artichoke” which has been commercially produced in Urla since 1945 and shown a great increase in planted agricultural areas in the last five years, is a regional geographical indication and is a special gastronomic product that is accepted all over the world just like the peninsula.

With its stories and heart-shaped interior, its elegant petals and purple blossom, artichokes, which can be processed in many different ways, it also turns into a creative object for many designs as well as culinary arts. With these special qualities, artichoke is considered as an opportunity to satisfy the visitors who come to URLA district from history to agriculture, gastronomy to art and culture in all fields.

The International Festival is scheduled to continue to host foreign chefs along with domestic chefs, every year.
