The US Senate has approved a resolution aimed at stopping American military operations against Iran, limiting President Donald Trump’s authority to continue the conflict without further congressional approval.

The resolution passed by a vote of 50 to 48, with four Republican senators joining Democrats in support of the measure, which seeks to restrict the president’s war powers.

The vote followed a similar resolution that had previously passed in the House of Representatives. The result reflects growing concerns over the conflict that began on February 28 and has faced significant public opposition.

Bipartisan Support to Limit Presidential War Powers

Four Republican senators broke with their party to support the resolution: Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, and Rand Paul of Kentucky.

Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was the only Democrat to vote against the measure.

The decision highlights divisions within Trump’s Republican allies over the continuation of military operations against Iran and the extent of presidential authority in matters of war.

Missing Senators Changed the Outcome

The Senate vote was also affected by the absence of two Republican senators. Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who was recently hospitalized, did not participate in the vote.

Both senators had previously opposed similar war powers resolutions. Democratic lawmakers have repeatedly introduced such measures since the beginning of the conflict with Iran.

Debate Over US Military Role Continues

The Senate decision adds another layer to the ongoing debate in Washington over America’s military involvement in Iran and the balance between presidential authority and congressional oversight.
