Warning from Turkish Airlines for passengers traveling to 5 countries

Turkish Airlines issued a warning to passengers traveling to Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, and Brazil. Recently, Turkish Airlines (THY) had not accepted some passengers on flights to Mexico, and in a statement from THY officials, it was stated that the Mexican border police rejected passengers before the flight, and therefore passengers were not admitted to the aircraft.

Following the incident, a warning was issued by THY to passengers traveling to Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, and Brazil.

According to the airline’s statement, additional checks are being applied for passenger acceptance on flights arriving in these 5 countries, in addition to passport and visa requirements.

The warnings from THY are as follows:

Venezuela

There is no transit application at Caracas Simon Bolivar Airport. Passengers who will continue their flights with a layover must enter Venezuela, collect their baggage, and check in for the onward flight at the relevant airline counter. Due to the entry requirement, passengers with layovers must meet the valid visa and other conditions for their passport-issuing country.

General entry requirements:

Visa (suitable for travel purposes)
Hotel reservation (paid and covering the travel period)
Return ticket and official invitation letter (notarized).

Mexico

Requests for entry to the country may be denied for passengers with long stays without baggage, first-time international travelers, and passengers without documents suitable for their declared travel purpose.

Rules to be observed for flights arriving at Cancun International Airport (CUN):

Mexico Electronic Approval Document (provided that the same document is not reused)
Hotel reservation (paid and covering the travel period)
Return ticket

Rules to be observed for flights arriving at Mexico City International Airport (MEX):

Transit Visa if it is a transit flight
Plane ticket for the onward journey in case of a transit flight
Hotel reservation (paid and covering the travel period)
Return ticket for round-trip journeys (provided that the ticket date falls within the validity period of the visa-required countries).

Colombia

Entry requests may be denied for passengers who have been previously denied entry to the country, passengers with long stays without baggage, and passengers without documents suitable for their declared travel purpose.

General entry requirements:

Hotel reservation (paid and covering the travel period)
Round-trip ticket in the same PNR (provided that the ticket date falls within the validity period of the visa-required countries)
Transit time should be less than 24 hours in case of a transit flight.

Panama

Entry or transit requests may be denied for passengers with long stays without baggage, passengers without documents suitable for their declared travel purpose, and passengers who cannot provide appropriate answers during customs police interviews upon arrival in Panama.

General entry requirements:

Having a valid visa for passengers whose final destination is Panama or who will transfer via Panama (for countries requiring a visa).
Return ticket for round-trip and transit journeys (provided that the ticket date falls within the validity period of the visa-required countries)
Hotel reservation (paid and covering the travel period)
Transit flights should not exceed 12 hours.

Cuba

Entry requests may be denied for passengers with long stays without baggage, passengers without documents suitable for their declared travel purpose, first-time international travelers, and passengers without sufficient cash or a valid credit card for the duration of their stay.

General entry requirements:

Round-trip and transit tickets (provided that the ticket date falls within the validity period of countries requiring a visa).
Hotel reservation (paid and covering the travel period)

Brazil

Entry requests may be denied for passengers with long stays without baggage, passengers without documents suitable for their declared travel purpose, first-time international travelers, and passengers without sufficient cash or a valid credit card for the duration of their stay.

General entry requirements:

Round-trip and transit tickets (provided that the ticket date falls within the validity period of countries requiring a visa).
Hotel reservation (paid and covering the travel period)
Transit flights should not exceed 24 hours.
