Weather in Turkey: AKOM (Disaster Coordination Center) issues severe storm warning for Istanbul

According to the meteorological assessment by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), the southwesterly winds (lodos) are expected to strengthen today. Tomorrow, these winds are forecasted to intensify and turn into a storm, accompanied by occasional thunderstorms and heavy showers in some areas.

According to the latest AKOM evaluation, the southwesterly winds will increase their strength during the afternoon hours today. Temperatures will remain around 23 degrees Celsius.

The southwesterly winds are expected to further intensify on Saturday, November 4th, after noon (40-60 km/h), and become a strong storm with occasional bursts in the evening (50-80 km/h). Short periods of heavy thunderstorms and rainfall are also anticipated.

In preparation for the expected storm and heavy rainfall from tomorrow evening, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality teams have switched to an emergency duty system. Istanbul residents have also been warned to be prepared for any potential adverse conditions.
