Weather in Turkey: Citizens in Istanbul see first snow of the season

This morning, the first snow of the year fell in Istanbul. Following the warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) in Istanbul, the rain and strong winds that were effective since yesterday morning turned into snowfall this morning.

After the effective rain and storm throughout Turkey, the first snowfall of the season has begun in some regions.

Snow on Bolu Mountain

Snow continues to fall on the frequently used Bolu Mountain pass at an altitude of 900 meters. Especially in the Karanlıkdere, Bakacak, and Elmalık regions, the snow thickness reached five centimeters, and visibility dropped to 30 meters in some places.

Highways teams have started working to prevent disruptions in transportation. Traffic teams also warned drivers using the route to be careful.

First Snow in Kocaeli

Snowfall has also started in Kartepe, one of the important tourism areas close to Istanbul. The temperature dropped to 8 degrees Celsius.

The snow combat teams of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and Kartepe Municipality continue their efforts to prevent road closures and disruptions in transportation.
