Today is World Toilet Day, and the same debate has come up again. Some argue that cleanliness should be achieved by washing after using the toilet, while others believe that wiping is sufficient.

The United Nations declared November 19 as World Toilet Day in 2013, with the goal of ensuring that everyone has access to a healthy toilet.

Toilet habits vary from region to region. According to research, in countries where the majority are Muslim, the use of water for cleanliness is still preferred due to the Islamic teachings recommending water use for hygiene. In India and China, there are also people who prefer cleaning with water.

In the United States, Germany, and Britain, using toilet paper for wiping is the majority practice.

According to the Natural Resources Defense Council’s research, the United States is the country that consumes the most toilet paper per person globally, with 141 rolls per capita. It is followed by Germany with 134 rolls and Britain with 127 rolls.

The BBC has brought up the same question again. In Turkey, the majority is in favor of cleaning by washing.
