Weather in Turkey: Heavy Rain Warning for Istanbul and 20 Provinces, Stormy Weather on the Way

The Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) has issued a yellow code alert for Istanbul and 19 other provinces as strong downpours approach from the west. According to the latest forecasts, much of northern, central, and western Turkey will experience cloudy skies and periods of heavy rain throughout the day. The most intense rainfall is expected across the Marmara, Aegean, and western Mediterranean regions, including Istanbul, Muğla, and Antalya.

Istanbul Faces Intense Showers

The Marmara region will see widespread rainfall, with thunderstorms expected across most cities except for Bilecik and Sakarya, where lighter precipitation is likely. Istanbul will remain cloudy and cool, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 20°C. Localized heavy rain could lead to flooding in some areas, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Residents are urged to take precautions against possible transport disruptions.

Muğla and the Aegean Coast Under Strong Rain Bands

In the Aegean region, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to affect Muğla, İzmir, and Manisa. Both northern and southern coastal areas could see intense rainfall, sometimes reaching severe levels. Temperatures in Muğla are expected to hover between 15°C and 21°C. Authorities have warned of flash floods, short-term hail, and strong winds along the Aegean shoreline.

Antalya Braces for Thunderstorms

Antalya and surrounding parts of the western Mediterranean will experience cloudy skies and periods of strong rain, particularly from the morning hours onward. Rainfall is forecast to be locally heavy, with temperatures around 20°C to 25°C. Travelers and residents are advised to be cautious, as heavy showers could disrupt daily routines and outdoor activities.

Across the Rest of the Country

In Central Anatolia, Ankara and Eskişehir will see rain develop later in the day, accompanied by gusty winds from the south. Western Black Sea provinces such as Bolu and Düzce are also expecting afternoon thunderstorms. Meanwhile, the eastern and southeastern regions will enjoy clear skies and mild weather, with temperatures reaching up to 30°C in some areas.

Meteorologists Warn of Flood and Wind Hazards

The MGM emphasized the risk of flash floods, road disruptions, and power outages in areas under warning. Strong southerly winds in Central Anatolia, the eastern Black Sea interior, and northeastern Anatolia could reach speeds of up to 60 km/h. Citizens are advised to follow updated forecasts and take necessary safety precautions.
