The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has issued a warning regarding potential adverse effects due to ‘heavy rainfall.’ The announcement, indicating that in emergency situations citizens can reach the Emergency Call Center at 153, includes the following;

In the statement made by AKOM, citizens were advised to stay away from stream beds and their surroundings, avoid unnecessary travel by vehicles unless mandatory, and be cautious for those residing in basement floors.

“As of the morning hours, heavy rainfall, especially affecting the European side of Istanbul, has been recorded in various regions of the city, ranging from 30 to 75 kilograms per square meter. It is expected that the rainfall will continue to be intense until the evening hours (21:00) in the southern regions of the European side and the general Anatolian side, and then gradually weaken, persisting until the night hours (01:00).”

One person lost his/her life in the city due to the impact of the storm and heavy rainfall that lasted throughout the day.”
