Why has easyJet cancelled some of its flights?

EasyJet had to cancel more than 200 flights in the past week. EasyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren said the reason for the flight cancellations was because staff had corona. Johan Lundgren, who denied the claim that the number of staff was insufficient, noted that the canceled flights were 5 percent of easyJet’s total flights at that time.

Noting that easyJet had carried 250 thousand passengers with 1,600 flights in the remaining 7 days, Lundgren said: “We had no problems hiring cabin crew. The problem was that a large number of personnel who contracted corona could not come to work. At the moment, we are 10 percent short of staff at some places and 20 percent short of staff at some others.”

Regarding the alleged dismissal of too many staff during the pandemic, Lundgren also said, “We have laid off 1,100 people in the UK. Then we hired the same number of staff. We have no problem recruiting.”
