Why has exports of Chinese vaccine to Turkey stopped?

Some reporters asked  Chinese Embassy sources whether the delivery of vaccines to Turkey had stopped for political reasons, for example, because of the “mutual extradition of criminals” agreement, which is awaiting approval in Turkey’s Parliament and its link to Chinese citizens of Uighur Turks, in Turkey currently.

Campaigns on human rights violations against Uighur Turks are especially effective in Western public opinion. In fact, that’s why US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese Foreign Minister Weng Yi who met in Alaska in March had a fierce duel of words. The closest follower of this issue in Turkey is Meral Akşener, the leader of the Good Party. But most opposition parties, as well as MHP leader devlet Bahceli, an ally of President Tayyip Erdogan’s AK Party government, are known to put the brakes on this issue.

Regarding the issue Chinese sources say “No, the slowdown in vaccine delivery, has nothing to do with any political issues. There is no political problem in our relations with Turkey.”

The officials attribute the reason for the cessation of vaccine delivery since the end of March to the cessation of exports for a period of time due to an intensive vaccination campaign inside China. A campaign completed yesterday, May 7, used exactly 300 million doses of the vaccine. Given that China’s population is close to 1 billion 400 million, the dimensions of the campaign are also understandable.
