Winter Tire Obligation Begins: It Will Remain in Effect Until April 15 2026 and May Cost 5,856 TL Fine

The mandatory winter tire regulation for commercial vehicles carrying passengers or goods on intercity roads officially starts today. Drivers who do not comply will face a 5,856 TL fine, and vehicles without winter tires will not be allowed to continue their journey. The rule will remain in effect until April 15, 2026.

Five-Month Enforcement and Penalties

Traffic teams will halt vehicles that are not equipped with winter tires suitable for cold and snowy weather. Firms and drivers who fail to follow the regulation will be issued an administrative fine of 5,856 TL. Inspections will be intensified especially in snowy, icy, and harsh winter conditions.

Check the Production Date

Winter tires offer better grip on wet, snowy, and muddy surfaces, especially when temperatures drop below seven degrees. Although the obligation applies to commercial vehicles, using winter tires is strongly recommended for private car owners as well. Drivers are advised to check the tire’s production date and avoid old-stock or expired tires.

How Much Do Winter Tires Cost?

Winter tire prices start at around 2,000 TL for smaller sizes and go up to 5,000 TL depending on brand and quality. Larger tires can reach as high as 15,000 TL per tire.

Tire removal and installation cost around 1,000 TL for 16-inch and smaller rims, and between 1,200 and 1,500 TL for 17-inch and larger rims.
Storage fees at tire hotels generally match the price of a seasonal tire change.

The implementation is expected to significantly improve road safety during winter months.
