Environmental Organization Greenpeace said last week’s fire in Ukraine came as close as a kilometer to the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, warning the situation could increase the risk of radiation.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said the fire was under control but flames continued at some points. Reuters news agency footage showed that the 30-kilometre security zone around the site of the nuclear disaster had been darkened by fires.

Greenpeace shared that according to satellite images, the first fire had spread to 34 thousand hectares of Greenpeace, and the second fire which was effective on another 12 thousand hectares of the area was as close as a kilometer the spot where Chernobyl disaster had been experienced.
