Wizz Air begins flights to Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport

Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, operated by TAV Airports, welcomed Wizz Air’s inaugural flight from Bucharest yesterday (June 28).

 Wizz Air to Operate Bucharest-Izmir Route

The flight W4 3125, operated by an Airbus A321, brought 200 passengers to Izmir. The passengers were greeted with flowers at the terminal.

Wizz Air will operate direct flights between Izmir and Bucharest three times a week—on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays—until October 20, 2024.

 Statements from Officials

Erkan Balcı, General Manager of TAV Ege, expressed his happiness about the resumption of direct flights between Izmir and Bucharest after a five-year hiatus: “We are delighted to see the restart of direct flights between Izmir and Bucharest. We are working with our partners to connect Izmir with the world through direct flights. We look forward to welcoming passengers from all over the world.”

 Airport Growth and Statistics

Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, which operates flights to 73 different destinations in 38 countries with a total of 42 airlines, served 1.3 million international passengers in the first five months of 2024, marking a 31% increase compared to the same period last year. The total number of passengers also saw a 15% increase, reaching 4.1 million compared to the same period last year.

 Strategic Importance

Fehime Kaya, CEO of Maple Group and Turkey General Representative of Wizz Air, commented on the new flight: “We are very pleased to start operations in Izmir as Wizz Air. Izmir is a strategically important destination for us, and being here is very meaningful. This new route will strengthen Izmir’s international connections and offer more travel options to our passengers.”
