ECHR appoints Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saadet Yuksel from Turkey as new member

European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has appointed the new judge to act on behalf of Turkey. Ms. Saadet YUKSEL who got 111 votes will be representing Turkey at the ECHR for the next 9 years.

Ms. YUKSEL is reported to be the sister of Professor Cuneyt YUKSEL, former AK Party Mardin deputy and chairman of the New World Foundation Advisory Board, a an association close to ruling Ak Party.

It is also reported that Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul has congratulated Ms. YUKSEL on his new post at the ECHR.

In an interview she delivered to press Ms. YUKSEL said ““My goal is to make rulings and undertake work that will contribute to the development of human rights in both Turkey and member states of Council of Europe, along with the entire Europe.  I’ve always been interested in the judicial assurance of human rights in my work”.

WHO IS THE SAADET YÜKSEL?

Associate Professor Dr. Saadet YUKSEL completed her master’s degree at Harvard University and her PhD at Istanbul University. Ms. YUKSEL is currently the Head of Constitutional Law at Istanbul University. She is a part-time lecturer at Koç University, Faculty of Law. In 2018, she also worked as guest lecturer at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Qatar. YUKSEL has several studies on constitutional law and human rights.
