6 killed among many irregular migrants pushed back by Greece

According to the latest news, the Coast Guard Command has announced that 6 of the irregular migrants pushed back by Greek elements to Turkish territorial waters off the Aegean coast have lost their lives. Among them were 2 infants, 3 children and 1 woman, reportedly.

In the incident, it was also reported that Greek elements took the valuable belongings of the migrants and left them to death again.

A statement by the Coast Guard Command, “On September 13, 2022 at 00.10 hours information was received that a group of irregular migrants were in a life raft off the coast of Marmaris Beldibi.

Immediately upon receipt of information a Coast Guard boat was assigned to intervene and 66 migrants on 3 boats were saved. Coast Guard has been informed by migrants about another boat (fourth) that was pushed by Greek elements and upon this development 1 coast guard helicopter, a coast guard boat, a plane were sent to the scene of the incident.

As a result of search-and-rescue efforts the half-sunken raft (boat) was detected and more 7 irregular migrants were rescued. Unluckily though, bodies of 2 babies, 3 children and 1 adult female were collected from the sea surface.”
