Administration wants to restrict Izmir mayors to “make statements about earthquakes”

In a letter sent from AFAD to the Izmir Governorate, mayors, mukhtars and other public officials were asked not to make statements after the earthquake. CHP Izmir official, who shared the writing said: “If the mentality thinking elected mayors are its own officers or bureaucrats has not understood until now, let’s explain it again: As far as Izmir is concerned we will not take your permission to stand in solidarity with our people and share with them the facts of the earthquake.”

CHP official made the following statements from his personal social media address:

“There’s a crisis, don’t talk! Do not seek justice! Ignore the theft! Don’t help the citizens who contract the epidemic! The final product of this mentality was to ban our mayors from talking about the fact of the earthquake in Izmir, the measures to be taken for Izmir residents and the help to be made.

If the mentality thinking elected mayors are its own officers or bureaucrats has not yet understood, let’s say it again: for Izmir, we will not take your permission to tell the facts of the earthquake, and be in solidarity with our people.

This circular is void for us. It is a product of cruelty and  a product of the understanding of cruelty and one-manhood that tramples on the state tradition.
