AIR POLLUTION IN TURKEY

In a report prepared by the Test Industry and Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB) Economic Research, it was focused on issues such as the effects of the global problem of air-pollution on human health, the eco-system, the climate and the economy.

7 MILLION PREMATURE DEATHS

According to the report; air pollution, which causes 7 million premature deaths worldwide every year, is considered one of the most important environmental health problems today. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), 300 million children worldwide are exposed to 6 times more air pollution than acceptable levels. When this pollution reaches dangerous levels, it can negatively affect children and young people by causing unplanned educational pauses.

CITIES IN TURKEY WITH MOST POLLUTED AIR

The available data for the 26 cities in Turkey used in the study prepared for the report do not indicate a Decently directional relationship between production and air pollution indicator. Experts comment this situation implies that production can be increased without increasing air pollution.

Considering the nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentration, the data of 12 cities, including Erzurum, were taken into account in the study, in which the data between 2016 and 2021 were analyzed.

The following statements were included in the report:

*Among the cities included in the study, Ankara, Erzurum and Trabzon are the cities with the highest average concentration of NO2. it is seen that the average NO2 concentration of Ankara, Erzurum and Trabzon is above the WHO and EC critical values in 2021.
