The 14-day quarantine rule, which UK is supposed to apply to foreign tourists or those returning from holiday to the UK as part of the normalization process, has caused reaction among airline companies. Airlines and politicians have demanded that UK abandons this practice to some countries, including Turkey, Greece and Germany.

The UK government, which has often been the focus of criticism for its failure to take necessary and correct precautions regarding the corona virus outbreak, has been in the midst of a fresh controversy. The decision to impose 14-day quarantine on entry into the country has brought many political figures, especially airlines, to their feet.

Accordingly a group of airline companies have agreed on a list of 45 countries and urged the government to provide foreign tourists coming from said countries as well as British nationals with exemption from 14-day quarantine, on entry to UK, with the start of the summer season.

The group formed by British Airways, Easyjet and Virgin Atlantic, has handed said list to authorities. The list sent to ministers and politicians included countries such as France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Turkey. It was clearly mentioned in the list that 14-day quarantine would be a major blow to tourism and airline transport. (TA)
