AKÇAY an excellent holiday resort on Edremit Bay, with its clean air and healing waters

 Akçay is on the shore of Edremit Bay, at the foot of the Kaz Mountains Around this spot there are important holiday resorts such as Küçükkuyu, Altınoluk around Akçay and the island of Lesbos, just  opposite it.

Akçay has been in demand from domestic tourists rather than foreign tourists until today. This spot is relatively easy to reach because it is at the intersection point of the roads coming from Izmir, Balıkesir and Çanakkale  directions. This resort is among the first preferences of middle-aged and older families as well as young people with its environmental richness, healing waters, clean sea, and breezy air. Its population reaches 150 thousand people during the holiday season which apparently turns out to be over its normal capacity.

A PARADISE FOR RETIREMENT

Many houses with gardens can be seen here, and the town is almost a retirement paradise at the same time. It has a very long coastline here, and there are bazaars with stalls selling parallel to the beaches, tea gardens shoulder to shoulder along the coast, promenade areas.

Almost all of the streets here are used as parking lots. When visitors come to the port, they see the statue of the goose-walking Sarıkız, famous for the legend of the Sarıkız in the Kaz mountains in a large area called Cumhuriyet Square. The statue is located in an ornamental pool full of water, where people make wishes and throw money. There are children’s parks, beautiful walking paths, water channels, sight-seeing and recreation areas in the resort.

MANY CAFES, SHOPS AND FOOD PLACES SERVING LOCAL DELICACIES

Akçay has many cafes and tea gardens along the beach as well as ice-cream shops, buffets and food places serving local delicacies. For enthusiasts, sellers of decorative goods, jewelry designers, carpet weavers, beach equipment sellers literally turn the coast into a market place.

The ice-cold springs of Kazdağı which cause the sea water temperature to decrease, also balance the salt ratio of the sea water. Most importantly, thanks to the abundance of water, the water network in Akçay has the feature of being the only holiday resort of our country where there is no need for closed bottled water.

HOT SPRING WATERS

The area around Edremit Akçay has hot spring water rich in geothermal care. Thermal facilities, which have diagnosis and treatment departments and provide services, attract great attention with their places such as swimming pools, massage units, steam baths, sauna, Turkish bath. The thermal spring water of the region, especially the Bostancı Region, which has been revived with the declaration of a Thermal Tourism Region, seems to have gained importance.

SURROUNDINGS AND ACTIVITIES

Guided tour information is given to those who want to participate in the daily boat tour at the stand installed at the entrance of the pier, and trip records are made. On these trips, one can go to many stopover points and swim here.

PROMENADE PLACES

There are also many promenade places around Akçay. Pouring from a height of fifteen meters, the “Sutüven Waterfall” is in demand by being a place where both safarists and picnickers enjoy the water by swimming and watching.

Located within the borders of Güre, six kilometers from Akçay, the “Pinarbaşı Promenade” operated by the Forestry Department attracts attention as another option that hosts a significant number of visitors, has plenty of water and trout facilities, with memorial trees that make the sky invisible.
