The AK Party is preparing to submit to the Parliament an amendment in the “Electoral and Political Parties Act” which it has been working on for a long time together with the MHP, at the latest in early March.

Due to the inability to reach a compromise with the alliance partner MHP on such important changes as “narrowed zone, an intra-alliance threshold, the regulation will be submitted to the Parliament as a narrow-ranging proposal of articles 10-15”.

THE THRESHOLD FIGURE WILL BE OFFERED AS 7 PERCENT

According to the information reflected from the AKP, the most important regulation of the proposal will be the lowering of the electoral threshold. The new threshold will be offered to the Parliament as 7 percent, which was expressed for the first time after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and “finalized” by the statement of MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli.

In fact, the staffs of both parties point out that they have agreed on a “5 percent” rate in the negotiations conducted between the party delegations, but that the threshold will be included in the proposal as 7 percent “because this rate was voiced by the leaders”.
