Are Turkey’s ski resorts more expensive than many around the world?
While the high prices at ski resorts and winter holiday destinations in Turkey become a topic of discussion every year, especially with increasing security checks, this article takes a look at alternative destinations abroad. Despite the exchange rates of the Euro and Dollar, it turns out that some foreign options are not more expensive than those in Turkey.
Winter sports are not widely practiced in Turkey, partly due to their high costs. With expensive equipment, limited facilities, and high accommodation prices, skiing isn’t one of the most popular activities in Turkey. At Turkey’s most popular winter sports destination, Uludağ, room prices for dates after the semester break start at 35,000 TL per night, raising questions about whether such high accommodation costs exist abroad.
Looking at the prices for a family of two adults and one child with a room and breakfast at a distance of no more than 250 meters from the ski lifts or slopes between January 27-31, the prices are surprisingly high.
Turkey is expensive
When looking at the prices in neighboring Bulgaria’s ski resorts, it becomes clear how much more expensive Turkey is. In Bansko, room prices with breakfast range from 2,500 to 7,500 TL, while in Pamporovo, prices vary between 1,500 and 9,000 TL.
Skiers’ paradise, Switzerland
In Davos, Switzerland, after the World Economic Forum meetings have concluded, prices range between 9,000 and 15,000 TL. For a more luxurious experience in Saint-Moritz, winter holidays range from 10,000 to 30,000 TL.
In Chamonix, located on Mont Blanc on the border of France and Italy—the highest mountain in the European Alps—skiing prices range from 2,000 to 17,000 TL. In the luxury resort of Courchevel, with the world’s largest connected ski slopes, prices start from 5,000 TL and go up to 49,000 TL.
In Austria’s Kitzbühel, also in the Alps, skiing requires accommodation ranging from 7,000 to 29,000 TL.
How is the situation in USA?
Crossing the continents to the USA, at the famous ski resort Aspen, accommodation ranges from 12,000 to 25,000 TL per night. In Canada’s Mont-Tremblant, accommodation costs between 5,000 and 8,000 TL.
In Japan’s ski resort Niseko, nightly accommodation ranges from 10,000 to 22,000 TL in Turkish Lira.
It’s clear that while Turkey’s ski resorts are among the most expensive, there are other international alternatives with similar or even lower costs, depending on the location.(ekonomim)
