A new regulation is being introduced in Turkey to combat digital crimes, particularly focusing on preventing fraud in online transactions. According to the news from Türkiye Gazetesi, new measures will be put in place, such as:

  • Two-factor authentication for money transfers: EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer), wire transfers, and similar transactions will require an additional verification step, improving security in financial operations.

  • Strengthened legal measures against cybercrimes: The legal framework related to cybercrimes and fraud will be updated to ensure more effective prosecution.

  • Enhancements in telecom regulations: Identity verification will be mandatory for phone subscriptions. Phone numbers with outdated or incomplete registration details will be blocked. Additionally, if fraud is detected via phone, the offending subscription will be immediately canceled.

  • Improved institutional support for prosecution: The capacity of public prosecutors will be enhanced to handle cybercrimes. Special guides will be created for different crime types, and these guides will be kept up-to-date.

  • Faster response to fraud involving banks: In cases where fraudsters impersonate banks or financial institutions, any accounts receiving stolen funds will be quickly blocked to prevent further loss.

Overall, these measures aim to significantly reduce digital fraud and improve the prosecution of related crimes in Turkey.
