In Batman, peanut orchards that will be harvested next month, producers have started to stand guard with guns so that their crops will not be stolen. Producers who said that they kept watch 24/7 during harvest periods for peanuts sold from 140-170 pounds to merchants from the garden also said said, “We are deprived of sleep so that the ripening peanuts are not stolen.”

As the harvest period of the peanut, which is called ‘green gold’ in the Beşiri district of Batman, approaches, producers have also increased their precautions.

THEY STAND GUARD WITH A GUN

Having heard that peanuts, the selling price of which varies from 140 to 170 TL, are stolen from the garden in some surrounding villages, land owners in the villages of Yenipinar, Deveboynu, Yarimtas, Atbağı and Ayrancı are on guard round the clock with hunting rifles in their peanut gardens.

While the villagers report the people they consider suspicious to the gendarmerie, the teams also patrol the peanut gardens, especially at night.
