The 74th death anniversary of Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK, the founder of Modern Turkey is being commemorated all over the country today.

Top statesmen to include Turkish President Abdullah Gül, head of parliament, opposition leaders and Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç have all attended ceremonies in Ankara, the capital. PM Erdoğan has not attended the ceremonies as he is paying a visit to the Sultan of Brunei today.

ATATÜRK is accepted to be among the top genius statesmen ever, due to his magic like achievements such as creating a new republic that has earned the respect of the whole world from the ashes of a collapsed empire (Ottoman). The most important part is however he has – together with his fellow comrades – managed to accomplish this mission-impossible against a very mighty enemy (of allies) and with almost no resources of money or arms to take on such challenge.

Atatürk right after his legendary victory founded the Republic of Turkey, undertook very critical and
necessary reforms such as abolishing Sharia law and adopting a Western-oriented secular system and a relatively modern economy and much more…

Millions of citizens attended ceremonies all over Turkey and hundreds of thousands visited his mausoleum in Ankara. As the flags around the country were lowered to half-mast, statesmen led by the President observed a minute of silence at 9:05 a.m., the moment he passed away  in 1938.

President Gül expressed the gratitude of the nation in the official Anıtkabir guest book.

We as tens of millions of  “free, patriotic and secular children” of ATATÜRK are determined to follow his principles and look after all the values and acquisitions he has given us, at the cost of our lives.
