Automotive market starts the new year with 56.6 percent increase

The total market for cars and light commercial vehicles in Turkey increased by 56.6 percent last month compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 79,701 units.
According to the data of the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), car sales in January 2024 increased by 71.7 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching 64,041, while the light commercial vehicle market increased by 15.1 percent to 15,660 units.
The growth rates compared to the 10-year January average sales are as follows:
The car and light commercial vehicle market grew by 131.2 percent
The car market grew by 147.1 percent
The light commercial vehicle market grew by 82.9 percent
A, B, and C segments with low tax rates constituted 89.6 percent of the market. C segment cars took 62.9 percent share with 40,279 units, while B segment cars took 26.3 percent share with 16,862 units.
When evaluated by body type, the most preferred were SUV cars (52.6 percent share, 33,705 units). SUV cars were followed by sedans with 30.3 percent share and 19,407 units sold, and H/B (hatchback) cars with 15.3 percent share and 9,827 units sold.
Electric car sales increased
Electric car sales below 160 kilowatts increased by 453.1 percent, accounting for 84.2 percent share, while electric car sales above 160 kilowatts increased by 34.5 percent, accounting for 15.8 percent share.
Car sales below 1600cc increased by 56.5 percent, accounting for 76.9 percent, car sales in the 1600-2000cc range increased by 31.5 percent, accounting for 0.7 percent, and car sales above 2000cc increased by 65.9 percent, accounting for 0.2 percent.
Cars with CO2 emissions between 100-120 gr/km reached 20,867 units, accounting for 32.6 percent, while cars with CO2 emissions between 120-140 gr/km reached 15,169 units, accounting for 23.7 percent.
Automatic transmission cars accounted for 87.3 percent with 55,902 units sold, while manual transmission cars accounted for 12.7 percent with 8,139 units sold.
