CONSTRUCTION PROJECT BETWEEN BODRUM AND MILAS

Bodrum-Milas region which has already reached the point of exhaustion due to excessive construction, now faces the possibility of a mega project to be built in same region. If and when said project is realized the area will have a new town with 30 thousand population. Sources refer to this project as tailor-made for business people AGAOGLU and TIBUK. Same sources also comment that the authority has paved the way for the project by passing some new laws allegedly designed for concerned business people in particular, to make it possible.

Construction company owner Ali Agaoglu and Besim Tibuk who runs a casino and hotel in the TRNC, are said to be close to realizing their 15-year old dream. On the other hand however, said dream could mean “doomsday project” for one of the places that Turkey should do everything to protect to the best her capability.  The reason is

The project is about building a town (of their own) in a region where one of the world’s few wetlands is located. Experts comment if this project is realized, an area of 2 percent of Bodrum will have been filled with a population of 5 percent of the population of Milas.

It seems to be worth noting that some giant projects that have been waiting for years in tourist areas have been approved at jet speed, right after fires in Turkey. Just to provide an example, for a project of hundreds of villas and a hotel planned to be erected by SINPAS (construction co) at the KIZILBUK BAY in Marmaris, the authority had issued decision saying ÇED (Environmental Impact Assessment) report was not necessary, only a couple of weeks ago. And three days ago, TIBUK’s Net Holding announced the news to Stock Exchange Istanbul sharing that the EIA report on the 25-year-old dream of a “tourist city” had been accepted.

“Looks like not pleasant news for the nature of this beloved country.”
