Bank cards will be used in public transportation in Istanbul

The October meeting of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Coordination Center meeting was held. At the meeting, the proposal for an increase in public transportation of 24.79 percent was rejected by a majority of votes. The proposal to convert line-based minibuses and taxi dolmus into taxis and to organize unhindered taxi transportation was referred to the sub-commission. On the other hand, with the decision taken at UKOME, the offer to use bank cards other than Istanbulkart in public transportation vehicles was accepted.

At the meeting where various agenda items were discussed, the proposal of IMM Public Transportation Services Directorate (TUHIM) to regulate public transportation fare tariffs was also discussed.

IBB Transportation Department Head Utku Cihan expressed that they proposed to raise fees by 24.79 percent drawing attention to the rate of inflation and fuel prices as well as minimum wage.

Regional Manager of Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure stated that they did not consider the hike appropriate, while representatives of IETT, Metro Istanbul and TURYOL asked for a hike.

The representative of the Turkish Federation of Drivers and Automakers and the President of the Istanbul Taxi Drivers’ Chamber, stated that they requested a raise, but they did not consider this rate appropriate. After the speeches, the offer of a raise was not accepted in the vote.

With the decision taken at UKOME, the offer to use bank cards other than Istanbulkart on public transportation vehicles was accepted.
