Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş said during a rally in the southeastern province of Batman on 27th October that a Kurdish state was being constructed in the Middle East.

Demirtaş who was in Batman to support Kurdish inmates conducting a hunger strike called on the government to start acting like a government and a state.

During the rally titled “We won’t be silent toward deaths” he said “A Kurdish state is being constructed in the Middle East”.

Co-chair of BDP asked supporters of his party to support the strike exercised by Kurdish political prisoners and urged them not to open their shops, and to send their children to school on Oct. 30.

Demirtaş is known for his harsh criticism on the current government but is often slammed by the Turkish PM for not acting in the political arena free of pro-Kurdish terror organization PKK which is in armed confrontation with Turkish security forces. PKK is declared a terror organization by many international bodies as well as countries such as USA.

In his speech on the rally, Demirtaş did not refer to the interior minister saying he tried to approach Kurds with guns, sticks and violence adding a solution for the conflict would be very close, if the government approached with peace and dialogue.

As usual, BDP leader also demanded freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Some Kurdish  prisoners have been on a hunger strike for 46 days, to get guarantees of health, security and freedom for Öcalan as well as acceptance of Kurdish as an official language in education and the right to defend themselves in Kurdish. It is reported that some protesters are in critical condition.
