Boğaziçi University Rector Prof. Bulu removed from office by Presidential Decree

Prof. Dr. Melih Bulu who took office  6 months ago with AKP President Tayyip Erdogan’s decision, was removed from his position as rector of Boğaziçi University. No appointment took place to replace Bulu. No appointment took place to replace Bulu. The decision was published in the Official Gazette.

Boğazici community said “From day one, we repeat that our resistance is not about people, but about appointees and the order of the trustee! We argue that the fight against the trustees assigned to all universities and municipalities should continue in an uncompromising line! We do not accept a new trustee from within or outside the Bosphorus University who will be appointed to replace Melih Bulu. We call on all components of the university to vote.”

WHAT DID STUDENTS REQUEST?

After Bulu was appointed to the post, students and academics who wanted an elected recto (from within the university) to be elected held protests at Boğaziçi University. The protests were supported by other universities.
