The 2024 local elections in Turkey were held today, with particular attention on Istanbul and Ankara. As of 20:14 (Turkey time), barring any major setbacks, it seems that the winner of Istanbul will once again be the CHP candidate and incumbent mayor, EKREM İMAMOĞLU.

At said time, İmamoğlu appears to be leading in front of his opponent by 8 points, with approximately 25% of the ballot boxes opened.

On the other hand, in Ankara, the incumbent mayor Mansur Yavaş seems to have won the election by a significant margin.

It appears that significant developments are on the horizon for Turkish politics in the near future. In this election, he not only defeated his opponent but also the whole cabinet (ministers and all in power) … all by himself.

Indeed, a man who is going to leave a mark on the future of Turkish politics is emerging.
