Breaking news: 51.5 percent hike in public transportation fees in Istanbul

At the IMM Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) meeting, a decision was made to raise public transportation fees. Accordingly, the boarding fee of 9.90 has increased to 15 TL. The taxi opening fee was increased from 40 TL to 70 TL with a 75 percent increase.
In Istanbul, public transportation fares were increased by 51.5 percent. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) held an extraordinary meeting with the agenda of raising public transportation fees.
IMM Deputy Secretary General Buğra Gökce chaired the meeting held at Social Facilities and proposed a 51.5 percent increase in IMM public transportation fares. IMM’s increase proposal was accepted by a majority of votes with the comment of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
METROBUS FARE GOES UP TO 22 TL
With the increase, the boarding fee, which was 9.90, increased to 15 TL. Student fee increased from 4.83 to 7.32 TL and metrobus fee increased to 22.25 TL.
TAXI OPENING FEES INCREASE AS WELL
=> The taxi on-and-off fees went up to 70 TL (from 40) with 75 percent increase in opening fee. The opening fee of the taximeter has increased to 19.17 TL.
=> Minibus fares will also vary between 12 TL and 15 TL depending on the distance with the coming hike. The minibus student fee was determined as 8 TL.
=> School shuttle 0-1 KM monthly fee increased from 792 TL to 1200 TL, staff service fees for vehicles with a capacity of 10-17 seats increased from 422.40 TL to 640.40 TL.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
At the July ordinary meeting held last week, IMM had requested a raise of 52.07 percent, while the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure had requested a 40 percent raise.
