Breaking news… IBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu arrested on corruption charges

Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul, has been arrested by the on-duty magistrate court following an investigation into alleged “corruption” related to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).

The Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated investigations against Ekrem İmamoğlu and 99 suspects on charges of “being the leader of a criminal organization,” “membership in a criminal organization,” “bribery,” “qualified fraud,” “illegally obtaining personal data,” and “tampering with tenders.” Additionally, a separate investigation has been launched for Imamoğlu, İBB Deputy Secretary-General Mahir Polat, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, and 7 other suspects for allegedly “aiding the PKK/KCK terrorist organization.”

After their processing by the police, some of the suspects were brought to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan. The on-duty magistrate court completed their proceedings and ordered the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu, the President of the Union of Turkish Municipalities, and the Mayor of Istanbul.

Furthermore, İmamoğlu has been released under judicial control in connection with the “city reconciliation” investigation.

The proceedings for the other suspects are ongoing.
