Breaking News: According to AFAD Strong Earthquake Strikes Near Istanbul

Quake Felt Across the Region

A strong earthquake shook Istanbul and surrounding provinces today, creating widespread concern. According to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the quake occurred in the Marmaraereğlisi district of Tekirdağ with a magnitude of 5.0 at a depth of 6.71 kilometers.

The tremor was widely felt in Istanbul as well as nearby provinces, reminding residents once again of the region’s seismic risks.

Different Reports from AFAD and Kandilli

While AFAD reported the earthquake as magnitude 5.0, the Kandilli Observatory measured it slightly stronger at 5.3 with a depth of 12.5 kilometers. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, and so far no major damage has been reported, but assessments are ongoing.
