COVID19 FOUND IN RED MEAT

Cambodia’s Health Ministry has announced the discovery of the corona virus (Covid-19) in frozen meat imported from India.

Cambodia’s Health Ministry said the corona virus (Covid-19) was found in frozen beef in 3 out of a total of 5 shipping containers brought to the country from India.

The results of the Covid-19 test on samples taken from frozen buffalo meat for laboratory tests by the Pasteur Institute in Cambodia came back positive, the Health Ministry said in a statement. Meat found with the virus will be destroyed later this week in accordance with health measures.

The Southeast Asian country of Cambodia temporarily suspended imports from India on May 1 due to an increase in Covid-19 cases earlier this year, but resumed on June 19 after falling case numbers in India.

At least one dose of the vaccine has been given to about 40 percent of the country’s population so far as part of the vaccination campaign, which began in February. Since the beginning of the outbreak, 74,386 cases have been identified in the country and the number of people who lost their lives due to the outbreak has reached 324 thousand.
