Announcing that he would not pay his electricity bills until the hikes were withdrawn, CHP Leader KILICDAROGLU said he wanted to force the government to back down.

At the beginning of the new year, electricity bills had been switched to a multi-stage tariff, with usage up to 150 kilowatt-hours per month had seen a 50 percent increase, and if it was higher, it had seen a 127 percent increase. The limit of 150 kilowatt-hours was later increased to 210. While electricity hikes were being protested in many cities, tradesmen had started to hang electricity bills in shop windows

Later the CHP leader made his debut in a video posted on Twitter, adressing the public; “Why are your electricity bills inflated? Who set eyes on your slice of dry bread? Only together can we put an end to this cruelty. Let’s talk about this picture” and he announced that he would not pay his electricity bills until the hikes were withdrawn..
