Citizens in Bodrum flock to markets and bakeries after curfew announcement

The curfew to apply within the provincial boundaries of 30 metropolitan towns and Zonguldak was announced by the Ministry of Interior and it started at 24:00 hours last night. After the announcement of the 48-hour curfew which was part of the measures taken against Coronavirus outbreak, citizens formed queues in front shopping places across in the country.

Bodrum was one of these places surely where residents who heard about the curfew flocked to markets and bakeries in panic. Citizens who forgot about the outbreak set up long queues at grocery stores, bakeries and fuel stations in Bodrum. They totally ignored social distance also causing a heavy flow of traffic.

On the other hand, the Ministry of the Interior announced the details of the ban in its circular and the establishments, businesses and institutions that would be open.

Based on the circular, places licensed for bread and bakery production, places producing health care and medical supplies (including masks), public and private health care institutions, pharmacies, public institutions necessary for the resumption of community services (nursing home, elderly care homes, rehabilitation centers, emergency call centers, etc.) one gas station and on vet for every 50 thousand population to be determined by local governor, large facilities and businesses operating strategically in the natural gas, electricity or oil sectors (such as Tüpraş, thermal and natural gas cycle plants), PTT, cargo and distribution companies, animal shelters, farms and maintenance centers will be open.
