Deep Poverty Network: 82 percent of women do not have access to sanitary pads

SANITARY PAD PRICES INCREASED

Communication Coordinator of the Deep Poverty Network, said, “We have had interviews with 103 families. 82 Percent of women do not have access to sanitary pads” he said.

There are ongoing criticisms of the hikes in hygiene products such as pads and tampons used by those with menstruation and the 18 percent VAT levied on these products. According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), sanitary pads with unit price of TL 0.6692 in December last year, were increased by 51.04 percent in a year. Accordingly, the unit price of pads in December 2021 was 1.0561 TL, but the unit price of sanitary pads in grocery stores exceeds 2 TL.
