RULING PARTY TURKEY AND ELECTIONS

The AKP has triggered the snap election debate with its recent moves. Opposition parties are reiterating their demand for early elections taking every opportuniy. Spokesmen for the government deny the allegations, but snap election would not be a surprise.

The fact that the AKP government has increased the minimum wage to 4253 TL, its statements that it will work on the EYTS from time to time and its messages that it will take steps related to 3600 additional indicators, have resurfaced the allegations of early and dominant elections.

Recently, the Deputy Chairman of the Future Party (and a former AKP member), claimed that President Erdogan (also AK Party leader) and MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli had met, suggesting that there would be an early election on June 19.

The components of the Nation’s Alliance also continue to reiterate their calls for early elections at every turn. CHP Spokesman Faik Öztrak reiterated his call for early elections in his speech yesterday. Recalling the visit of CHP Leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu to the Turkish Statistical Institute, Oztrak said: “The fact that our leader was stood (not allowed in) at the door of the Turkstat (Statistical Institute) also left the government helpless. This way, the government had to admit that TURKSTAT inflation figures were not correct. The government was not able to take into account the inflation figure of TURKSTAT for the calculation of the new minimum wage increase. The minimum wage has been increased by more than 50 percent. That means inflation is at least 50 percent (whereas Turkstat sees it at 20 percent level). We, as the opposition, have worked for our nation. We want to serve our nation in power, now. Bring the ballot box as soon as possible. Get on the scale of the nation. The people are counting down the days to give their attestation to the Erdogan’s “single person government”. And when he comes to the polls, citizens will say to him “Good bye”.
