Drug called Favipiravir developed by Japan to be used for treatment of corona virus

Chinese researchers have announced that they have proven through clinical trials that Favipiravir, the flu drug developed by Japan, is effective in treating the corona virus. The drug, which has been found to have regressed symptoms, will be used to treat the virus.

Chinese researchers have commissioned a study that may be a hope for a cure for the virulent corona virus that has emerged in the country’s Wuhan city and alarmed the world.

Zhang Xinmin, director of the China National Center for Biotechnology Development, announced that they had found that the flu drug Favipiravir, also known as Avigan or Favilavir, developed by Japan, cured corona virus symptoms.

Speaking at a news conference in Beijing, Zhang explained that the drug’s effectiveness had been proven in clinical trials by two different healthcare organizations in the country.

The drug was tried in the cities of Wuhan and Shenzen on groups of 240 and 80 people, respectively, Zhang said, adding that those who were given Favipiravir drug showed negative results within four days on average. In patients who did not use the drug, Zhang noted that the process had been found to be 11 days.

The director emphasized that Favipiravir had been effective against the corona virus symptoms, pneumonia to be in the first place, and did not show a significant side effect. (BTT/NTV)
