Earthquake in Turkey: Not a single plate was broken in the building he built

A glassware store under one of the two blocks standing upright in Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the double earthquake disaster stunned everyone. After the tragic incident even the plates and glasses had not toppled in the store, despite the scary magnitude of the quake., the young contractor of the 2 buildings was applauded by whole Turkey and his statement in regards was like a proof of the saying “It’s not the earthquake that kills, it’s the building.”

‘WE DID WHAT WAS NECESSARY’

The building under which the glassware was, also stood erect among other collapsed buildings in the environment, along with the twin block next to it.
The contractor was Mehmet AKIN ÖNCÜ, chairman of a construction company and in the construction business since 2005.

NOT A SINGLE PLATE WAS BROKEN IN BUILDING HE HAD ERECTED

Explaining that he received a large number of appreciation, congratulations and prayer calls, Öncül briefly said: “First of all, our pain is very great, our nation’s condolences. We are trying to do our job in accordance with our projects and legislation. We are always at work together with our technical staff. We attach importance to inspections and controls at every stage of our construction. As a company, we continue our activities in Kahramanmaraş. Fortunately, we did not have a heavily damaged building during the earthquake.”

GLASSWARE STORE OWNER ALSO AMAZED: “I FOUND IT AS I LEFT IT”

On the other hand, the owner of the store said he had been out of town at the time and he was almost shocked and went on to say, “when I came back everything was still in place as I had left it, except for a few plates of glasses. There was nothing broken in the warehouse in the same way. The store was closed on Sunday. I found it the same way I left it.”
